MEDIAted Africa is the dossier created by Amref in collaboration with the Osservatorio di Pavia’s researchers to analyse how the African continent is represented on TV, in newspapers and on social media.
In the third edition of the dossier MEDIAted Africa, in addition to quantitative analysis, we have chosen to deepen the representation of Africa and Afro-descendants in the world of sport. In the third year of analysis, the research confirms the marginality of the African continent in newspapers and in the news. Some data:
- 16 is the average amount of African news published in newspapers each month.
- 4% of the news is directly or indirectly related to Africa.
- 39% of references to African countries in entertainment programs, an increase of 6% from 2020.
Compared to previous surveys, however, there has been a positive increase in the presence and citations of African countries within television entertainment programs.
